Art and Culture Flourish at Desert Festival

The cultural and artistic highlight of Tennant Creek’s calendar is set to flourish again, with the 2005 Desert Harmony Arts and Cultural Festival, which will run from 26 August to 3 September.

The festival, a week-long celebration of the region’s diverse art and cultural scene, will feature a range of events. One evening includes a culturally diverse evening meal with Asian, European, Western and Aboriginal cuisines, and a local movie production.

The Power and Water Corporation is supporting the Festival by sponsoring the Technicolour Dreamcoat Wearable Art Category, a highlight of the festival that focuses on creating pieces of art/clothing, often from recycled materials.

Power and Water’s Tennant Creek Area Manager, Colin MacKenzie said supporting the Festival was an opportunity for the Corporation to help people in the region celebrate their diverse culture and talents.

“The festival gives the Tennant Creek community access to fun events and the chance to take part in a range of experiences not usually available in the region,” Mr MacKenzie said.

“Whether people enjoy the festival as participants or audience members, it’s sure to be another memorable event.”
