Friday 23 December, 2005 Titan Generator Operational Hours ReducedIn response to residents’ concerns about increased noise levels at the Ron Goodin Power Station, Power and Water are reducing the operational hours of the Titan generator. Commencing today, the generator will not operate between the hours of 8.00pm and 6.00am, unless in an emergency situation. This operational change will continue until mid-2006 when custom designed and manufactured baffles are installed on the Titan to mitigate the noise. The baffles work in a similar way to a car muffler to reduce noise. Power and Water’s Area Manager, Alan Whyte said “Power and Water are working as quickly as possible to mitigate the noise levels outlined in the recent sound survey report conducted by international sound monitoring experts, Hayes MacKenzie.” “The Titan will be switched off at night when the load demand is off-peak,” said “Summer is when power demands in Alice Springs are at their highest, so keeping the Titan on during peak-demand is vital in ensuring reliable power supply to the entire town.” “We are listening to affected residents’ concerns and trust that this operational change will mitigate noise in the short-term until the baffles are installed. We will continue to communicate with residents through direct mail and the media,” Mr Whyte said. Contact: |
