Gala Tennis Festival for Red Centre Students

The Red Centre Tennis Academy is holding its annual gala tennis festival, which aims to get students in Central Australia interested in the sport.

Alice Springs Tennis Association’s Matt Roberts says tennis is a sport that is going places and has a strong following in Alice Springs.

The Power and Water Corporation is a proud sponsor of the Alice Springs Tennis Association’s annual Gala Tennis Day.

“The Alice Springs Tennis Association has more members and activities than any tennis centre in the Northern Territory,” said Matt.

“This is a sport that can be played by people aged from six to 86 – it’s clean, drug free and non-violent, and promotes health and fitness for the whole family.

“Around 250 students from over 15 schools will get to have a go at tennis, and have the opportunity to win prizes and awards.”

The Power and Water Corporation is a proud sponsor of the Alice Springs Tennis Association’s annual Gala Tennis Day.

The Power and Water Gala Day Tennis Program ensures school students in a 1,000 square kilometre radius around Alice Springs – including Yulara, Tennant Creek and remote communities - get to have a go at tennis with an accredited tennis coach.

There is a section for experienced young players, and two days have been set aside for children who have never played tennis before.

The Power and Water Gala Day attracts over 200 children each year, and the students displaying the most talent receive a scholarship to help them continue playing tennis.
