Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds Open for Inspection

Spectacular birdlife, water saving tips and information on water recycling will be available at the Power and Water Corporation Open Day this Saturday at the Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds.

Power and Water Corporation’s Water Manager for Southern Region Alan Whyte said the aim of the Open Day is to raise awareness in the local community that we live in an arid environment and water is a precious resource that must be used wisely.

“The Open Day is also a great opportunity to update the community on the progress of the ‘Water Reuse in the Alice’ project,” said Mr Whyte.

“As well, we want to let locals know that these ponds are actually a world class bird watching facility that attract tourists from all over the world.”

“There will be guided bird watching tours and information talks on water issues in Alice Springs by leading local experts.”

The Open Day will run from 9am to midday and entry is free. There will be give aways, and the chance to enter a competition.

Guided bird watching tours will leave at 9:15, 10:15 and 11:15.
