Power and Water recognise environmental efforts

Territorians caring for the environment were recognised last night at the 2004 Environmental Excellence Awards.

Managing Director Power and Water Corporation, Kim Wood said “we started the Awards last year because we believe we have a responsibility to look after the environment, and we wanted to encourage ther Territorians to do the same”.

“Power and Water encourage our customers to reduce their power and water consumption because that lessens the impact on the environment”.

“We know there are many Territorians who are committed to sound environmental management and we want to shine the spotlight on those people. The Awards highlight initiatives that conserve water, manage energy and minimise waste.”

“There are five award categories: community and local government; commercial and industry; small business; domestic; and environment grants.”

Fourteen fantastic entries were received this year from individuals, schools, businesses and community groups. All of the entrants this year again demonstrated that Territorians are innovative, original and committed to the environment. This year’s winners are:

Power and Water is committed to contributing to our community and creating greater awareness of environment issues in the Territory,” Kim Wood said.

In coming years, we hope the awards will help to recognise and reward Territorians who do the right thing by the environment, and encourage others to do the same – whether they’re businesses, community organisations, schools or individuals,” said Mr Wood.
