10 June 2004 Power and Water Down at the YMCA The Palmerston YMCA have a 22-seater bus, used to transport the kids to different activities around the area. With the help of an artist, the kids have recently painted it: it’s the one with the bright, colourful front and sides. Now that Power and Water are financially supporting the YMCA, you’ll soon see the Power and Water logo on the back of the bus as well. Debra Wightman, Manager Corporate Communications, said the Power and Water Corporation is pleased to come on board as one of the major sponsors for the Palmerston YMCA. “Through this financial assistance, we can help the YMCA to continue to provide a youth-friendly centre that is accessible to young people in the area.” she said. “They’re always looking to provide more services where they can. If Power and Water can get a few more kids into some healthy activities, it’s a good thing.” Over 400 young people are registered at the Palmerston YMCA, their ages ranging from 12 to 20 – and some who visit the centre from time to time are even younger. The YMCA aims to provide what the kids want to be involved in, whether it’s recreation, management, arts, entertainment or development programs. The YMCA depends on grants, sponsorship and donations to provide these programs. Debra Wightman presented the cheque and the bus sticker to Michael McLean, Co-ordinator, at 11.00am, 10 June 2004, at the Palmerston YMCA. Contact: |
