Environment Policy
Context
The environment includes land, air, water, organisms, ecosystems and landscapes, and encompasses the well-being of humans; structures made or modified by humans; the amenity values of an area; and economic, cultural and social conditions.
In this context, our focus is the biophysical and social environment within which we operate and deliver services to our customers.
Commitments
We are committed to:
- A proactive risk-based approach to environmental management that leads to continual improvements in our performance.
- Seeking solutions for the provision of sustainable services to our customers by ensuring environmental factors are considered in planning for new services and significant upgrades of our assets.
- Protecting or enhancing the environmental values of air, land and water under our control, while recognising our obligations to the people we work with - employees, customers and the community. Our first concern must always be the preservation of human life.
- Engaging with the community on environmental issues of mutual interest.
- Minimising environmental impacts we can reasonably and realistically control while achieving our business objectives.
- Providing training and resources to enable all staff to contribute to achieving environmental outcomes and objectives.
- Meeting our legislative and regulatory obligations.
Implementation
Power and Water will implement this policy through the corporate Environmental Management System and an annual action plan to meet the specific outcomes and objectives of the Environment Strategy.
