Attention Birdwatchers: Access to Ilparpa Swamp

Due to the number of requests for access by visitors and residents who are interested in seeing the unique bird-life in the Power and Water is Waste Stabilisation Ponds at the Commonage, Power and Water has released some simple guidelines for access to this area. Power and Water will be implementing the following procedure and request that members of the public wishing to access the Stabilisation Ponds adhere to the following requirements.

  1. Access to Waste Stabilisation Ponds will be granted to members of the public upon completion of an induction and indemnity form.
  2. Access to the ponds will be via the current pedestrian gate – which will remain locked at all times. Access keys for this gate will be issued to those who have signed the appropriate paperwork and paid a $50 (refundable) key deposit.
  3. Access to the ponds will be Pedestrian only, (vehicle access can be arranged in special circumstances i.e. persons with disabilities).
  4. Blanket Indemnity forms can been arranged for Birdwatcher Organisations/Associations covering all members that visit the ponds.
  5. All persons accessing the Waste Stabilisation Ponds area are required to carry and show Photo Identification should they be approached by pond security.;
  6. Enclosed footwear is to be worn at all times.
  7. Tour group operators to provide indemnity for groups and/or individuals, provide proof of insurance and place key deposit as per above.
