Melaleuca Awards 2003

The winners of Power and Water’s first Awards for Environmental Excellence were announced, at the George Brown Botanic Gardens 5th June 2003. Each winner received a Melaleuca Award, as the awards are known, and a complimentary energy audit from Power and Water. All entries, including the winners, will be on display at the Power and Water stand on this year’s Show circuit

The 2003 Melaleuca Award goes to the following four category winners:

• Domestic - Alice Springs Cool Living House
• Small Business (employing under 20 people)
  - Aqua Treat (NT) Pty Ltd
• Commercial and Industry - Parmalat NT (Pauls)
• Community and Local Government
  - Mawalan (1) Gamarrwa Nuwul Yirrkala Landcare

The recipients of Power and Water’s Environment Grants were:

• Northern Territory University
• Darwin and Palmerston Cool Community Project
• Arltarlpilta Community Government Council
• Arid Lands Environment Centre
  Installing and monitoring a household water system that uses rainwater and mains water
• Driver Preschool
  Creating a cane-toad-proof frog habitat and observing the lifecycle of frogs

The Awards were presented by Mrs Judith King, Director of the Power and Water Corporation and Chair of its Enviroment Committee.
