Power and Water Corporation is constructing a new water main and storage facility as part of the Palmerston and Rural Water Supply Enhancement project, for customers in the Darwin, Palmerston and rural areas.
JN Mousellis Civil Contractors Pty Ltd has been engaged to install new water mains in the area of Radford Road, Palmerston which will connect customers to the main water pipe that supplies the area.
Approximately, 300 metres of 300mm water main will be installed along Radford Road and around 850 metres of 150mm water main will inter-connect Radford Road with neighbouring roads.
Power and Water General Manager Water Services Steve McKenzie said that this is an important first stage of the Palmerston and Rural Water Supply Enhancement project.
“This is stage one of a major project which is designed to ensure water supply for the future in this rapidly growing area,” said Mr McKenzie.
“These works include an upgrade to infrastructure to give each property direct access to the new water mains,” he said.
“Ultimately, the project will mean better quality water to homes in this area as well as a backup water supply as these homes will be connected to a loop main.”
“Importantly, it provides increased fire-fighting and safety measures, with the installation of fire hydrants.”
Currently water reticulation in this area consists of a single supply line providing water to Banjo connections - a meter on the water main and a private pipeline to residences.
