Santa won’t be the only one working hard this Christmas. For many of the staff at Power and Water it will be business as usual as they continue to provide services 24/7 to more than 80,000 customers across the Northern Territory.
During the wet season, heavy rain, lightning strikes and fallen trees are the major cause of power outages and problems with water services in the Top End.
Despite all the protection systems, when a tree falls onto powerlines or uproots a water main, hands-on repair is necessary.
Power and Water’s Networks crew maintain more than 8,000 kilometres of powerlines and will remain on-call throughout the festive season.
System Control also operates around the clock, receiving calls about service interruptions and dispatching crews to restore services.
Water Services crews will be ready to repair broken water mains, remove blockages to sewer pipes and ensure that pump stations are working effectively.
If residents are going away this wet season, we suggest that fridges and freezers are emptied and sensitive electrical equipment is unplugged to minimise the possibility of damage in a power outage. Also, to ensure your account is up to date call customers services 1800 245 092 to settle any bills. Bill can paid online at powerwater.com.au/pay
