Power and Water will carry out essential works at the Casuarina switchyard in Darwin's Northern suburbs tonight. To ensure the safety of our crews Power and Water will be taking customers off power from around midnight tonight for 90 minutes (1.5 hours) into Thursday morning.
Parts of the following suburbs will be affected: Leanyer, Lee Point, Lyons and Tiwi, Anula, Moil, Wulagi, Marrara, Wanguri, Nakara, Brinkin, Alawa, Jingili, Rapid Creek and Nightcliff.
General Manager Power Networks Bertram Birk said that this essential work would take place at a time that was safe and with anticipated minimum impact on our customers.
“We need to do some urgent work on the instrumentation section of the switchyard at the Casuarina substation. Therefore it is necessary to take some customers off supply,” he said.
“We understand this will cause some inconvenience but we assure our customers that we are keeping the outage to an absolute minimum while still permitting safe repairs,” he said.
“We regret the inconvenience to customers and ask for their understanding,” he said.
The major upgrade of equipment and the installation and commissioning of new switchboards to restore Casuarina Zone Substation is on schedule with completion expected at the end of 2010.
Significant investment both in time and money is being made at the Casuarina Zone Substation site. It is a priority project for the Corporation and work has been underway for two years while the site transitions from an old to new zone substation.
The Corporation is two years into a five year, $1.5 billion investment in building, upgrading and maintaining facilities. This is the largest investment in essential services in the Territory’s history.
