Power and Water will celebrate National Water Week this October by hosting a fun educational event for primary schools in Darwin.Tapstar Saves Water features a typical Australian family called the Wastings and their long-suffering appliances.
Tapstar, our water-saving super hero with his sidekick Tapdog and assistants the Dripettes, come to the rescue and help the family become waterwise graduates with the assistance of the children in the audience.
It is a fun and engaging play designed to deliver water conservation messages to a young audience through audience activities including singing, scientific demonstrations and puppetry.
National Water week is an annual awareness week that aims to raise public awareness and improve understanding of water issues in Australia.
This year, National Water Week is from 17 to 23 October.
Power and Water’s water conservation officer Ella Patterson said it was a good time for Territorians to think about their current level of water use and ways to use this precious resource more efficiently.
“It really is a myth that there is water to spare in the Top End,” Ms Patterson said.
“While we have a reliable wet season with high rainfall, there are nine months of the year when evaporation is greater than rainfall at Darwin River Dam.”
Tapstar Saves Water is FREE to schools. It is at the Darwin Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 October at 9.30am and 11am.
