Power and Water continues monitoring the East Point outfall and Ludmilla Wastewater Treatment Plant following high bacterial counts at Lake Alexander.Power and Water monitors the water quality at each of its ocean outfalls with at least monthly testing.
“Samples collected from the treatment plant late last week indicate very low bacteriological levels - less than 10 per cent of the levels of concern for Lake Alexander,” Power and Water’s Manager Headworks Planning and Development John Pudney said.
“This is consistent with results from the last five months.
“Power and Water is confident that the contamination at East Point is not a result of the discharge from Ludmilla, but will continue to work with all agencies to investigate.”
Ludmilla Wastewater Treatment Plant is a chemical process plant including grit removal and disinfection.
The treated effluent discharges about 900m off the coast at East Point.
“We are developing a Darwin Region Sewerage Strategy to cater for our growing population and have done extensive computer modelling in recent years,” Mr Pudney said.
