Territorians are encouraged to include Power and Water in their holiday plans.“By the time you’ve booked your flights, wrapped your presents and arranged for your pets to be fed in your absence, it can be easy to forget to check if your Power and Water account is due while you’re away,” Acting Managing Director Darryl Day said.
“But it’s a real hassle to come home and find you’ve been disconnected, so phone or visit our retail staff and save yourself that headache.”
Whether you live in the Top End or the Red Centre, the Territory is susceptible to severe storms at this time of year and this can cause power outages.
High winds, falling trees and lightning strikes can all damage power or water infrastructure.
“If you're going away this wet season, empty, clean and unplug refrigerators and freezers to avoid spoilage if the power is interrupted,” Mr Day said.
“Switch off and unplug sensitive electrical equipment, protecting your appliances from lightning strikes.”
Power and Water’s retail centres are open through the holiday season, except public holidays, so visit or give us a call on 1800 245 092 to check when your bill is due to ensure you don’t get disconnected in your absence.
If you visit our retail centres you’ll also see staff are wearing bright new t-shirts – which carry serious messages about saving power and water.
