Power and Water Corporation regularly advises the community on the importance of ensuring vegetation near powerlines is cleared.A significant number of power outages across the Top End are attributed to trees and palms touching powerlines.
Trimming trees and palms helps reduce the chances of a tree or palm causing an outage in your suburb.
Power and Water Corporation urges residents to contact us before pruning so we can advise you on the safest way to do this. If vegetation is close to powerlines it is critical that residents do not attempt to clear it.
Power and Water contractors clear vegetation within three metres from powerlines on road reserves and remove the debris from the site.
This includes trees that may come from private property and intrude on this safe clearance distance.
If you intend to prune or clear vegetation and you are unsure of the safe distances around powerlines call us and we can advise the safest method of trimming.
Property owners are responsible for keeping trees clear of the electricity service line, which is the line running from the power pole on the road reserve to the house.
