Ron Goodin Power Station - Alice Springs
8 December
Power and Water Corporation is seeking the urgent assistance of customers to reduce energy consumption.
We are experiencing unprecedented demand on the generation system. With temperatures forecast to reach 41 degrees today we anticipate a loss of power supply to some customers from 2.30pm.
These extreme temperatures place our equipment under additional strain.
To minimise the impact on customers, Power and Water is scheduling sequential outages across the following suburbs:
- Larapinta from 2.30pm to 3pm
- Gillen from 3pm to 3.30pm
Customers will only be affected for half an hour at a time. Further advice will be provided if necessary.
Power and Water requests customers to immediately reduce their electricity consumption. This action will reduce demand on the system and reduce the need for outages.
Air conditioners, pool filters and washing machines consume large amounts of electricity. These should be turned off until further notice to avoid ongoing power outages.
Power and Water is working on restoring normal service levels as soon as possible. Power and Water regrets the inconvenience to customers.
