Adding services to Palmerston
28 October
The civil construction phase is now complete at the new Archer zone substation in Palmerston.
The new zone substation will support an anticipated 3700 residential blocks set to come on line in the next five years.
It will provide increased capacity as a result of load growth from new developments, including new residential subdivisions, the expansion of the Palmerston Shopping Centre and new office space and apartments in the CBD.
Electrical works will begin next month before a 66kV transmission line from the new substation to the Hudson Creek Substation is constructed to increase security of supply from Weddell Power Station to the greater Darwin region.
Power and Water Corporation is also securing improved water services with a new Palmerston transmission water main now complete.
The 4.2 kilometre transmission water main extends from Howard Springs Road to Temple Terrace, then along Temple Terrace from the Stuart Highway to Roystonia Avenue.
The water main will meet the region’s increasing demand for water services and a new water tower will also be constructed with work scheduled to begin early next year.
