Electrical tender awarded for Archer Zone Substation

Power and Water Corporation has awarded the $1.8 million tender for electrical works to complete Palmerston’s new Archer Zone Substation.

Monadelphous Engineering Associates will install the high voltage switchyard equipment, protection and control panels, auxiliary equipment and associated cabling.

General Manager Power Networks Bertram Birk, said electrical work should start this month.

"This has us on track to commission the new zone substation in late 2010, providing additional security of electricity supply for Palmerston," he said.

Archer Zone Substation will increase Power and Water’s capacity to handle forecast load growth from new residential subdivisions, expansion to Palmerston Shopping Centre, office space and CBD apartments.

It has been designed to cater for the 3,700 new homes planned for construction over the next five years.

Sitzler completed the civil construction phase of Archer Zone Substation in October.
