Power and Water Corporation Gas Supply Manager John Tarca has confirmed preparations are in place to accept gas flow from the BGP."We will accept Off-Specification Early Gas (OSEG) from Blacktip over the next few days which will signal the commencement of a trial flow to Channel Island Power Station."
"Once fully operational we expect Blacktip to supply all of our gas needs for the next 25 years.”
Power and Water Corporation has also negotiated an agreement to purchase supplementary gas from the Darwin Liquid Natural Gas (DLNG) plant.
"The construction of an interconnecting pipeline, linking the DLNG facility at Wickham Point to the Amadeus Basin to the Darwin pipeline has been completed and is presently supplying DLNG gas to the new Weddell Power Station," said Mr Tarca.
"This is a contingency measure to provide Power and Water with an alternative to diesel," he said.
