Taurus settling into new home
18 May 2009 - Media Release
The Taurus gas turbine generator has now been relocated from the Ron Goodin Power Station to the new Owen Springs Power Station south of Alice Springs.
The generator and associated equipment was moved in a number of carefully planned stages, with the generator being the final part to be moved on its own transport platform.
In 2007, the Board of Power and Water Corporation made a commitment to residents near Ron Goodin Power Station to relocate the two gas turbines, Taurus and Titan and not to install any new generators at Ron Goodin.
Power and Water also fitted a silencer to the 10MW Titan generator and has only run it when necessary during the high peak summer period to minimise noise. The Titan will be relocated next year.
The Ron Goodin Power Station will continue to operate in parallel to the new Owen Springs Power Station until equipment at Ron Goodin comes to the end of its working life and is gradually retired
