Power and Water commits to Mervyn Davies’ recommendations

"Power and Water is committed to meeting every recommendation contained in Mervyn Davies’ Report," Mr Macrides said.

"Power and Water worked cooperatively with Mervyn Davies in undertaking his review and we are preparing a comprehensive response to his report’s recommendations that will outline exactly how we intend to implement each one, and the timelines for their delivery."

Mr Macrides said Mervyn Davies’ recommendations already in train include:

  • Undertaking a comprehensive Remedial Asset Maintenance Program at the Casuarina Zone Substation, all other zone substations and switching stations;
  • Installing a temporary switchboard at Casuarina while a new switchboard is constructed;
  • Assessing and overhauling equipment as necessary;
  • Identifying where additional training is needed and drawing on other utilities to up skill staff; and
  • Improving reporting procedures to ensure greater accountability for maintenance work to the Power and Water Board.

"We’re taking an orderly and sensible approach to make these changes to our work practices and aim to address comprehensively Mervyn Davies’ recommendations as a matter of priority," Mr Macrides said.

"The electricity network is highly complex infrastructure, and all work will be carried out in line with strict safety standards."
