Ludmilla Primary Students to help plant 100 native plants

This Thursday morning (28 May 2009) , Year 5/6 students of Ludmilla Primary School will be helping to beautify the area around Power and Water Corporation’s Ludmilla Wastewater Treatment Plant on Dick Ward Drive by replacing weeds such as coffee bush with more than 100 native plants.

Darwin City Council has already cleared the area and the revegetation project will be supervised and managed by Power and Water staff and teaching staff from the Ludmilla Primary School.

Power and Water Corporation will transport the students to and from the school, prepare the holes, provide the plants and potting mix and have cold water on hand. 

The students will be invited to place their handprint on a 'planter’s signature board' that has been erected on the site promoting the project.

Although native plants suitable for the area and requiring minimal watering have been selected in consultation with the NT Nursery Association, an irrigation system will be installed to help establish the plants initially. 

Power and Water and Darwin City Council will continue to maintain the area.
