Local kids help reclaim local nature spot

Power and Water Corporation will hold a planting morning at theMitchell Creek crossing this Thursday, 26 March 9.30 am with students from Driver and Bakewell Primary Schools and Greening Australia.

Palmerston is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia with an increasing demand for water services as housing and industry develops in the area.

To meet this demand, Power and Water is installing a new 4.2 kilometre transmission water main as part of its Capital Works Program. The main will extend from Howard Springs Road to Temple Terrace, then along Temple Terrace from the Stuart Highway to Roystonia Avenue.

Special care is being taken at the Mitchell Creek crossing to ensure minimal erosion by implementing extensive rehabilitation works. More than 400 plants will help to reclaim the area affected by the transmission works. Greening Australia has been contracted by Power and Water to assisting with the selection of appropriate species and planting.

Local company DAC Enterprises who were awarded a pipe installation contract for $4.1 million, will be doing a site safety induction for all participants.
