Cyclones, Storms and Floods Centre

Get Set for the WetEvery year Territory communities, towns and cities are affected by severe storms and the possibility of flooding and cyclones. Most pass by causing little or no damage, but we can never be complacent.

There are simple steps you can take protect yourself, your family and your home before the season starts. Our Get Set 4 the Wet guidelines will help you prepare.

Should a cyclone or major flooding impact the Territory, we will partner with local radio stations to keep you up to date with important information. This website also provides a range of information and links that you may find useful.

Storms do affect our power network and you may experience outages during the Wet Season. The Top End has more than 30,000 lightning strikes in a year and they can do serious damage.

We act fast when the power goes out, as soon as it is safe for our crews to go out. We actually restore power faster than anywhere else in Australia. In some cases you may need to call an electrician before we can reconnect you, our getting reconnected page gives you all the information you need.

Flash flooding can occur during monsoonal downpours and all Territorians need to be aware of the hazards that can be created. Please see the Cyclone and Storm Safety guide.
