Power and Water is undertaking a program of works to ensure the closure of the Larrakeyah sewage outfall is in accordance with the requirements of its wastewater discharge licence.
These works are part of Power and Water’s broader Darwin Region Sewerage Strategy that aims to:
The Larrakeyah Outfall Closure Plan project will eliminate the discharge of untreated sewage into Darwin Harbour from the Larrakeyah outfall and meets the requirements of Power and Water’s Wastewater Discharge Licence.
Construction work began in 2008, with four stages:
Power and Water is currently assessing tenders for this major project, with a successful applicant scheduled to be announced in late October 2011. Construction is scheduled to commence in late 2011 at an estimated cost of $19 million.
